Aligning with All Hallows Eve this year - on October 28th - is a partial lunar eclipse, visible from Europe to Africa, and slightly in the US. The full moon rise, however, will be spectacular. So worth getting out to a dark skies locations to see that.
Historically, we’ve always conducted workings on Ancestors’ Night (Halloween). Dok sees it as adhering to the old ways, found all over the world… but for him, it’s all about his roots in heathen Anglo Saxon and Viking England. Well over a thousand years ago, villagers in England would celebrate those who went before them. It was a quiet affair. Torches were lit and people typically did divination to discover the what trends lay ahead.

Some would “sit out” on burial mounds, such as the majestic site at Sutton Hoo, where possibly King Raedwald of East Anglia, or another dignitary, was laid to rest in a long-prowed ship filled with treasure.
Here’s what Doktor Snake says:
“I love going to Sutton Hoo. It’s owned by the National Trust and thus busy with tourists and guided tours. Not ideal (at least for me). But it is what it is. In fact, the ship burial was discovered via psychic visions. The landowner, Edith Pretty, saw a group of ghostly warriors coming across one of the large burial mounds, leading her to wonder what might be buried beneath. In 1939, teaming up with amateur archaeologist, Basil Brown, the two discovered an Anglo Saxon longship, replete with treasures and clearly a chieftain or kind of some sort interred within… with the famous helmet, which you can see in the video below.”
“Interestingly, with burial mounds, like those at Sutton Hoo, it is thought people sat out over night on them in a form of meditation communing with their ancestors. Some believe that pregnant women would literally spend the night inside a burial mound in the hope that the soul of an honored warrior would reincarnate in her child.
Anyway, all this serves as the backdrop to our Halloween workings every year. We call upon the old gods or yore, paying homage to the likes of Woden, Thunor and Freyja… Heimdall, and even a nod to the frost giants and the world serpent… all permeate our reality even today. The Wild Hunt, led by Woden, is still seen and heard in the lonely areas of the English countryside. If you are in the dark woods way after sunset, all alone, you can hear the rush of Woden’s hunt above you… if you’ve got any sense, you hurl yourself on the ground, to avoid being swept up by the ghostly troupe.”
